  • If you’re dreaming of purchasing your own dream home, we can help you every step of the way!

Go Big in Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas, so it’s only fitting that 7’1″-tall basketball legend and Hall of Fame inductee Shaquille O’Neal has made the Lone Star State his new home.

The famed athlete, actor, business entrepreneur, and restaurateur has some deep roots in the soil of Texas. The former San Antonio resident and Robert C. Cole High School basketball star decided to move back to Texas to oversee the development of his Big Chicken fast-food chain restaurant, which is expanding 50 stores into San Antonio and throughout Texas.

So long, Florida!

Recently, Shaq sold his waterfront mansion in South Florida, which boasted 12 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and 31,000 sq ft, including a 6,000 sq ft Shaq Center sports area complete with bleachers. Instead, he purchased a new, more modest 5,269 sq ft five-bedroom, six-bathroom European-inspired manor in the desirable Carrollton community in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Intended to be his part-time residence, Shaq’s new home features a dramatic, deluxe office library with a wood-burning fireplace, beautifully handcrafted tiered ceilings, and a wall of built-in shelves (perfect for placing his championship trophies), from where he’ll oversee the growth of Big Chicken.

Welcome home to the Lone Star State

The first thing you notice when pulling up to the property is the gated motor court featuring a three-car garage, beyond which the front door has four fluted stone columns and two more Corinthian columns between the foyer and the formal dining room. And with beige marble floors which run throughout the great room, the home features a contemporary gas fireplace and bright walls of windows that overlook the backyard with a lagoon-style swimming pool with a stone fountain beach entry featuring a classic spill-over spa.

Just adjacent to the great room is an open kitchen equipped with high-end appliances, granite counters, and a large island. There’s also a formal dining room topped with a chandelier and a breakfast room for casual dining. Upstairs are four bedroom suites, including the massive primary bedroom, which features a large sitting area, dramatic lighting, and a spa-like bathroom. Featuring another en suite bedroom downstairs, other amenities throughout the property include a gym and a home theater.

Closing a tech-forward deal

As more realtors utilize technology with their clients, Shaq completed most of the home buying process with facetime calls and tours. While the final sale price wasn’t disclosed, the home built in 2005 was last on the market in April for $1,224,900. Shaq currently has another modest home in the Ladera Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles and a 14.3-acre two-resident compound 30 miles from Atlanta.
