Most stars and celebrities aren’t born in Hollywood or glitzy cities like New York; they’re born in hometowns and down-to-earth Midwest cities like Columbus. Here’s who’s come out of Central Ohio and helped put our favorite city on the map!
Actors & Actresses from Central Ohio
They may be glamming it up in Hollywood now, but they mostly started from humble beginnings in Central Ohio. Hailing from our great city are tv and movie celebs like Philip Michael Thomas (Miami Vice), Josh Radnor (How I met Your Mother), Majel Barrett (Star Trek), AJ Langer (My So-Called Life), Andrea Bowen (Desperate Housewives), and Alana de la Garza (Law & Order).
TV star and author Guy Fieri (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) is also a Columbus native!
Writers & Artists from Central Ohio
We’re not just the home of Hollywood stars… other household names hail from Columbus, like R.L. Stein, author of the undyingly-popular book series Goosbumps (who hasn’t read that??). Margaret Peterson Haddix is another pretty big-name writer (Among the Hidden series) who currently lives in Columbus.
Musicians From Central Ohio
We’ve got a decent number of strummers, drummers, and singers from the area, too. The country band Rascal Flatts was formed here in Columbus, as was the newer alternative group, Twenty One Pilots. Joe Walsh (lead singer of The Eagles) is from Columbus, too!
Athletes from Columbus
Largely due to the outstanding athletics of The Ohio State University, we’ve had a LOT of now-famous athletes come out of the Columbus area! These include pro football players like Archie Griffin, Howard Cassady, and Terry Glenn. They are baseball players, soccer players, and basketball players.
And we’ve got our share of world-record holders, Olympians, and hall-of-famers, too, like runner Jesse Owens, gymnast Simone Biles, and golfer Jack Nicklaus!
