Kat Von D Finally Sells Eccentric, Modern Goth Mansion for $7.75M

Key Takeaways

  • Kat Von D sold her exotic mansion after being on the market since 2022
  • The famed tattooist initially asked $15 million but sold it for $7.75 million
  • The mansion was originally purchased by Kat Von D for $6.5 million

Made famous for her stint on reality TV as part of the Miami Ink and LA Ink crews, Kat Von D quickly became a known personality. Her unique style was unmistakable, and she frequently popped up in pop culture. One of her most notable contributions to Hollywood, though, was the lavished mansion that she just sold off.

Draped in gothic accents and decorated as if owned by a famed Transylvanian count, Kat Von D’s unique Los Angeles mansion has finally sold. The television personality and tattoo artist first purchased the mansion in 2016 for $6.5 million. When she initially listed the Victorian-era, 12,500-square-foot home, she priced it at $15 million, eventually coming down half to $7.75.

Kat Von D’s Dramatic Vision in Beautiful LA

While a gain on paper, Kat Von D put a lot of time and effort into transforming the eight-bedroom mansion into something out of the movies. The Californian home is drastically different today than it was as the filming location for “Cheaper by the Dozen” (2003). However, the entrepreneur still kept a bit of Hollywood’s flair with a brilliant, high-end style throughout.

Before even stepping inside the transformed mansion, you walk on elegantly manicured grounds, with trimmed hedges flanking the walkway up to the front door. On the rear side of the house, right outside the spacious carriage house, is a showpiece crafted in Kat Von D’s vision—a blood-red pool. And it’s not the water that’s red, either, as the inground pool is lined with a scarlet-colored finish to create the effect.

A Home Unlike Any Other

One reason the mansion may have taken a year to sell is its unusual interior, designed to Kat Von D’s personal tastes. Each space has a different style, from the rich dark wood of the entryway to the gold-accented kitchen.

The kitchen is a work of art, with gold-infused countertops that complement the deep wood cabinetry. Custom-carved accents decorate the range hood and an ornate chandelier hangs over the center island. A secret door hides a hidden bar and access to the pool and spa, with a chef’s garden not far from the entrance.

The dining room features more of wood paneling, with decorative sconces and large leaded stained-glass windows overlooking the beautiful yard.

Some Modern Touches

The upstairs takes a more modern approach with an automated theater equipped with surround sound. The space also features a stage with footlights and a bar tucked inside of a turreted room.

Despite its age, the mansion includes an all-new HVAC system, a new roof, improved plumbing, updated electrical equipment, a new security system, and, for those inclement weather days, a backup generator.
